Angie Gaffney is a producer and entrepreneur in Chicago, Illinois. Named to NewCity’s Film 50 Hall of Fame as one of the top leaders in Chicago’s film and media industry, Angie is passionate about the intersection of business, leadership, and creativity.
As a film producer, Angie focuses on developing bold, creative ideas and building the investment relationships needed to bring them to life. She has raised millions for independent feature films. Recently completed films include Single Car Crashes (Cinequest ’24), Desire Lines (Sundance ’24), Killing Eleanor (Best Narrative Feature Film, SCAD Savannah Film Festival 2020), Monuments (Nashville Film Festival Audience Choice Award 2020), and Jennifer Reeder’s Signature Move (Official Selection SXSW 2017). Angie is a member of the Producer’s Guild of America (PGA). She currently produces under her 521 Films banner with partner Brittani Ward.
Previously, Angie served as the Executive Producer at the renowned satirical newspaper, The Onion. She was instrumental in developing The Onion’s branded content agency, Onion Labs, overseeing the production and execution of all video content, web series, commercial initiatives, and client relationships. In this role, Angie worked with clients such as NBC, Google, The NFL, The NFLPA, DSW, Home Depot, YouTube, Audi, and Jim Beam, to name a few.
Prior to The Onion, Angie built her production expertise on commercial and low-budget film sets all over Illinois. She worked as a 1st Assistant Director, Production Coordinator, Production Manager, Line Producer, and Producer. She is an expert in all aspects of production and prides herself on her team-oriented, compassionate, and goal-focused leadership. Angie co-founded IFA Chicago, the premiere non-profit for Chicago filmmakers, located at Cinespace Film Studios, where she served as the Executive Director from 2015 - 2023.
In all of her entrepreneurial and producing endeavors, Angie works closely with employees, stakeholders, and executive leadership to develop viable business models and build integrated, efficient, and thriving work cultures. These experiences have directly informed her work as a certified coach. Angie works with executives and organizations to refine leadership skills, improve communication, and embrace creativity. Angie is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) with the International Coaching Federation and a graduate of Accomplishment Coaching.
Angie has held adjunct faculty positions at The Second City Film School, DePaul University, and Columbia College Chicago. Angie graduated Summa Cum Laude from DePaul University with a BA in Digital Cinema and a focus on Producing. Shoutouts go to her family, dogs, and high school softball coach.
